What Is A Laceration?

Medical |November 20th, 2018

A laceration is a cut that is irregular in shape and is usually caused by some blunt force. It can often get confused with an incision, which is also a cut but is due by a sharp object, such as a knife. Either type can be superficial (shallow) or deep enough to penetrate muscle. Infection is always a concern with such injuries, so it is important to keep the wound clean. Large or deep lacerations or incisions may need to be stitched to close the wound and promote healing.
